ROBERT PATTINSON and Kristen Stewart may never hear wedding chimes after her cheating ways were exposed, but “Cosmopolis” star Pattinson appeared anything but distraught while ringing the opening bell of the New York Stock Exchange Tuesday morning in a smart Gucci suit. That’s remarkable, considering the dizzying evening the 26-year-old star had endured. His manic Monday night began with the MoMA premiere of his new film. Afterward, Brian Niemietz reports Pattinson, his management team and a male pal enjoyed family-style surf and turf in the Dream Downtown’s private dining room, the Library. At 10 p.m., he joined his “Cosmopolis” castmates on that hotel’s Ph-D Rooftop Lounge for a party sponsored by Ciroc vodka. He opted for a couple beers.

According to one witness, Pattinson “Seemed really nice and friendly. You couldn’t tell anything was wrong.” Around midnight, “Cosmopolis” cast members, including Sarah Gadon, took an elevator down to the hotel’s exclusive Electric Room. That’s where Pattinson made his escape, through the subterranean club’s loading dock. An SUV stealthily whisked him uptown, leaving several unwitting female fans â€" one carrying a bouquet of roses â€" waiting in vain outside the hotel’s main entrance. Sources tell our Lisa Lang that Pattinson was staying at the Mandarin Oriental hotel and scheduled to fly out of Newark Wednesday.

SHIA LABEOUF saves his drinking strictly for the movie set these days. In 2011, LaBeouf was reportedly involved in two bar fights fueled by alcohol, but according to the “Lawless” actor, his days of casually imbibing are over. “I realize I have a problem with drinking. That’s not my sâ€" at all,” he told us candidly at the Cinema Society screening of the flick Monday at the Paley Center for Media. “But it worked for me here [in the film]. I don’t do it in life, but when I’m on set and it’s required of me, I’m gone.” LaBeouf stuck to his word at the Manifesto Yves Saint Laurent after-party at Gallow Green at the McKittrick Hotel, and stayed away from alcohol. The actor was overheard chatting with a group including his co-star Jessica Chastain about how this was the “most method set” he’s ever worked on “from morning to night.”

Method acting wasn’t the only thing that helped LaBeouf get into the character of a gunslinging, bootlegging criminal in the new flick. “I come from a family of rabble-rousers and, you know, misfits,” he told us when asked about his history of brawling. “I’m a fallible 26-year-old man.”

The bearded actor then targeted a reporter on the red carpet. “You, sir â€" you ever been in a fight in your life?” (Luckily for LaBeouf, the man said he had, once.) “People have,” the actor added. “It’s not that abnormal.”

THE ATTORNEY GENERAL didn’t let the House Oversight Committee’s lawsuit against him on Monday ruin his vacation. According to sources, Eric Holder attended a private screening of Whitney Houston’s last film, “Sparkle,” at the Island Theater on Martha’s Vineyard Monday night. This came only hours after the House Oversight and Government Reform Committee filed a complaint in federal district court in Washington against Holder to enforce a subpoena for documents related to the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious. In that action, federal agents permitted smugglers to take weapons across the border so they could be tracked. Also at the screening, which had an after-party at nearby hangout Hooked, were President Obama’s senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, Chris Tucker, Gayle King and Henry Louis Gates. A spokeswoman for Holder did not return a request for comment.

CHARLIE SHEEN’S lawyers can sue all they want. Sam Zherka says bring it on. The owner of the Cheetahs Gentleman’s Club planned to reopen the “Charlie Sheen VIP Room” Tuesday night despite past threats of legal action. “I’m not intimidated by the legal cloud hanging over the club,” Zherka said. In honor of its rechristening, Cheetah’s planned to give guests a red thong with Sheen’s name on it. The actor’s rep did not get back to us.
