Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart set for MTV awards ceremony showdown - Telegraph.co.uk

As a result of the scandal, the pair's scheduled appearance on stage together at MTV’s Video Music Awards on September 6, where they are due to co-present, has been placed under threat.

But on Wednesday it was suggested that despite their separation, the Twilight film stars will present gongs at the awards in Los Angeles, in what would be their first public appearance together.

An MTV show source told the Daily Mirror: "This event could be a real embarrassment. The idea was for them to jointly present awards but that is looking unlikely now.

"If they go up on stage at the same time fans will believe they are united again.

"If Kristen goes up alone the crowd reaction will be astonishing. Fans have bought into the romance on and off screen so she could be in for a horrible night."

The "insider" added: "It will be tricky for them to keep apart on the red carpet, backstage and the afterparties."

The disclosures come after it was claimed that Stewart has been dropped from the sequel to Snow White and the Huntsman following her high profile split from Pattinson.

The sequel to the film, which has made more than $389 million (£248 million) at the box office, will reportedly focus on the Huntsman character, played by Thor actor Chris Hemsworth, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Stewart played the title chracter in the film.

Sanders, the director of the original film, is also not guaranteed to return. Sanders, whose wife is the British model Liberty Ross, had a fling with Stewart, which led to the break-up of the high profile Twilight couple.

Ross, who also appeared in the Snow White film, had reportedly warned her husband if he wanted to save their marriage, he must never work with Stewart again.

"The studio is currently exploring options to continue the franchise", a spokesman for Universal told the Reporter.

Earlier this week, Pattinson gave his first TV interview since his split from Stewart.

Appearing on The Daily Show in the US, the British Twilight star smiled when Jon Stewart, the host, jokingly told him to “kick her to the curb”.

After producing two tubs of ice cream, the Daily Show anchor joked: “The last time I had a bad break-up, Ben and Jerry got me through some of the tougher times so I thought you and I could bond over this and talk about - boy, you are better off. Kick her to the curb.”

He took the jokes in good humour. Stewart has issued a public apology and begged for forgiveness.

She said: “"I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected.

"This momentary indiscretion has jeopardised the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry."
