Robert Pattinson Steps Out for First Time Since Kristen Stewart Scandal - People Magazine

No matter how much it may hurt, this is one vampire unafraid to come out into the light.

Robert Pattinson stepped out for the cameras for the first time since the Kristen Stewart cheating scandal, appearing Monday in New York for The Daily Show.

Host Jon Stewart offered the actor some Ben & Jerry's ice cream to help cheer him up, joking they were "just two gals" chatting about a breakup.

A tense-appearing Pattinson begged off any talk of his recent problems. But when Stewart noted that for young people going through a breakup sometimes feels like the end of the world, Pattinson answered, "It is."

The audience then went "Awwwwwww."

After the Daily Show taping, a much more relaxed Pattinson hit the red carpet at the Museum of Modern Art for his new movie Cosmopolis.

Signing autographs, Pattinson told fans, "Thank you, guys, for being here."

Until now, the Twilight heartthrob, 26, had been holed up in Reese Witherspoon's Ojai, Calif., estate, emerging only to unwind with pals at a local bar.

Despite early reports that Pattinson had cancelled promotional appearances for Cosmopolis, which arrives in theaters Friday, he braved the media glare to promote a movie that his rep says the actor is "very proud of."

Pattinson has been described as devastated by the admission by Stewart that she cheated on him with her Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders. Stewart and the married Sanders have both issued public apologies.
