Even Clint Eastwood isn’t defending Mitt Romney for inviting him to speak at the Republican National Convention.

When asked about his infamous performance with an empty chair during an interview with Extra, Eastwood quickly passed the buck to his down-on-his-luck candidate.

“If somebody's dumb enough to ask me to go to a political convention and say something, they're gonna have to take what they get," he said, acknowledging that his comedy routine didn’t get unanimously glowing reviews.

“People loved it or hated it and that’s fine,” he said. “That’s what it was supposed to be.”

But Eastwood still had nice things to say about Romney, expressing hope that as president he would “be a little more organized, a little more business-wise” than President Obama.

The interview was apparently filmed before Romney’s latest campaign headache involving leaked video from a high-priced fundraiser that showed the Republican candidate calling 47 percent of Americans government freeloaders.

Eastwood, 82, had more tepid praise for the president after he was told that Obama had called himself a huge fan of the actor and director â€" even after his RNC skit.

“Well, great. Well, I think he can be very gracious when he wants to be. That’s fine,” Eastwood said. “And I have no problem with him at all. I just have a problem with the situation that we’re in right now.”

“It’s nothing personal,” he added of Obama. “When he came in, I thought it was great. I thought the multiculturalism, multiracialism was great, all that kind of stuff.”

Clint Eastwood says “it’s done” and that he never looks back, when asked about chatting with an empty chair during his address to the Republican National Convention.

“But to me, it’s just about the work,” he concluded.

Eastwood, who was promoting his new movie, “Trouble with the Curve,” was also asked if he would make the same decision to do the empty chair routine, if given the chance to change his mind.

“I don’t know, I never look backwards. It’s done and it’s done. I probably would. I wouldn’t be afraid of it.”
