Katie Couric Tops New Talkers, Pulls Best Daytime Premiere Ratings in a Decade - Hollywood Reporter

Katie Couric Ricki Lake Jeff Probst - H 2012

Round one goes to Katie Couric. Monday's Metered Market ratings give a rather decisive win to the new talk show host, who bested fellow new additions to the schedule -- Steve Harvey, Jeff Probst, Ricki Lake -- by wide margins.

THR Poll: Daytime Viewers More Likely to Watch Steve Harvey Than Katie Couric

The first outing for Katie pulled a 2.8 household rating and an eight share in the top 56 markets. That ties the 2002 premiere haul for Dr. Phil, the last time a debut earned such high numbers.

For the last week, Steve Harvey had held the title of best premiere in the last three years -- since Dr. Oz in 2009 -- with a 1.5 rating in households and four share. His syndicated talker still ranks in a strong second.

Probst came in third. The Survivor host's daytime entry earned a 1.0 rating and a three share.

Falling behind was Ricki Lake. The host, who had another talker run for more than a decade, pulled a 0.8 rating and a two share. It should be noted, though, that lake is the only daytime freshman affected by Cablevision-Tribune carriage dispute, which saw WPIX-CW not air her show in New York City.

Couric, who built on the lead from the recently displaced General Hospital by 12 percent, also bested the season premiere of Anderson Cooper's talk show. Anderson returned to a 1.3 rating and four share.
