The Keeping Up with the Kardashians star has reportedly merged as the frontrunner to serve as the new female co-host of The X Factor this fall, TMZ reported Friday.

"There's at least an 85% chance she'll get the job," a source told the website.

While Steve Jones ended up hosting The X Factor's first season solo after the show decided to have original co-host Nicole Scherzinger replace Cheryl Cole on its judging panel, Cowell has previously stated the second season -- which will premiere Wednesday, September 12 -- will feature an entirely new male and female hosting team.

In addition, The X Factor creator and lead judge has repeatedly said he likes the idea of having hosts who have little prior hosting experience -- a qualification that would seem to favor Kardashian, who has also starred on her own Khloe & Lamar spinoff of Keeping Up with the Kardashians and competed on The Celebrity Apprentice's second edition but has no previous hosting experience.

During a conference call with reporters on Wednesday, Cowell reportedly told reporters the show would probably select its new co-hosts in "the next seven days." However he also noted that, given The X Factor's initial audition episodes don't feature a host, the show won't require a hosting team until the live performance shows begin next month.

"My gut feeling is we'll probably go with a boy and a girl who haven't had any hosting experience," Cowell told reporters, according to the Los Angeles Times.

"There's so much talking on these shows now," he added before playfully taking a shot at former American Idol colleague Ryan Seacrest.

"It's just too boring, as Ryan demonstrated, for one person just to say everything. I think you have to mix it up a little bit."
