TORONTO, ONT -- Kristen Stewart hit the red carpet on Thursday at the Toronto Film Festival â" the first time she faced the press following her cheating scandal â" but she had a co-star at her side as she tackled the media.
Garrett Hedlund, Kristenâs âOn The Roadâ co-star, teamed up with the 22-year-old, as they stuck to just promoting the film.
âIâm proud of the whole cast in the movie,â Kristen told Access Hollywoodâs Scott âMovieâ Mantz. âItâs crazy.â
âOn The Roadâ is based on the famed Beat Generation novel by Jack Kerouac and Kristen thinks the storyline is just as timely as when it was published (in the late 1950s).
âI donât think itâs ever been more relevant,â she said. âThereâs never going to be a time when people like that donât exist. Thereâs never going to be a time when like the little outskirt of people that wanted to do things a little bit differently arenât there and thatâs why itâs, in a way, I think itâs not about how rebellious they were being for the time or what conventions they were going against, it was so much more than that. Itâs not about being rebellious. Itâs about being yourself.â
Kristenâs performance in the film â" as Marylou â" already has some buzz with critics and her co-star, Garrett, who plays Dean Moriarty, said he was impressed.
âIâm so proud of her performance and I think everybodyâs wonderful. Like, everybody that came on was such a fan of Kerouac and the book and the project and a fan of Walter Salles,â Garrett said. âEverybody brought their hearts to the role and itâs sometimes a rare experience but in this case itâs really wonderful.â
