Mac Miller Preps For VMAs With 200 Push-Ups (And A Sandwich) - MTV.com

Mac Miller is taking an athlete's approach to this year's VMAs. He's paying close attention to what he's eating, what he's doing and even what he's watching.

The witty MC, who topped the independent label charts with "Blue Slide Park," definitely won't be eating any pink slime as part of his pre-VMAs diet.

The Pittsburgh rapper should already be in shape, of course, having just toured with Wiz Khalifa on mtvU's VMA Tour. When Mac joins his former tourmate, as well as Miley Cyrus, Rashida Jones, Andy Samberg and more at Staples Center on Thursday, he'll be fit as a fiddle. That is, if his story is to be believed.

"In order to get ready for the VMAs, I'm doing 200 push-ups a day," Mac told MTV News, with his tongue presumably planted in his cheek.

The man whose hip-hop notoriety began with the awe-inspiring and fun "K.I.D.S." mixtape and who quickly saw himself a contender for MTV News' 2011 Breakthrough MC title went on to say that his regimen also includes 300 sit-ups each day, plus "three minutes of running" and "two minutes of walking."

It's clear that Mac has his game face on in preparation for all of the festivities kicking off with the MTV News VMA pre-show Thursday at 7 p.m. ET/PT and the big show itself at 8 p.m. ET/PT.

And it's not just exercise. In news sure to make both Oscar Meyer, organic farmers and Jamba Juice proud, he said he's eating "three bologna sandwiches, one all grass-fed hamburger [and] two juice smoothies" every day, as well.

Plus, Miller was very specific about what he's been watching to get psyched up. He's getting in three episodes of a specific "Law & Order" franchise. Not the beloved (but cancelled) flagship series; not the similarly doomed "Law & Order: LA" or "Trial by Jury" or the still popular "Law & Order: SVU."

"Three hours of 'Law & Order,'" he said, pausing for dramatic effect: "'Criminal Intent' only." Whether that's the "Criminal Intent" featuring Vincent D'Onofrio as the Sherlock Holmes like Detective Bobby Goren, or one of the later variations with Chris Noth or Jeff Goldblum mixing it up in the story lines, he didn't say.

Whichever version of that "Law & Order" series he's been watching, expect to see Mac Miller's blend of drama and comedy on full display come Thursday.

The 2012 MTV Video Music Awards are set to go live from Staples Center in Los Angeles on Thursday at 8 p.m. ET/PT. But before it all goes down, don't miss our "Jersey Shore" special "Gym, Tan, Look Back" at 6 p.m. and our pre-show with Demi Lovato at 7 p.m.! And head over to VMA.MTV.com to vote on Best New Artist and Most Share-Worthy Video!
